The people who run the Uptown Café, a landmark restaurant in Noblesville, are dedicated to continuing a tradition that began way back in 1932. At that time, the Uptown Café took over a shoe store that had flourished since 1883 in Noblesville’s downtown neighborhood.
Today, owner Kristie Whitesell and her crew serve up some of the most imaginative breakfast and lunch items in all of Greater Indianapolis. One could accurately label the menu at the Uptown Café and Restaurant “contemporary comfort food” among restaurants in Noblesville. Aside from tried and true staples such as biscuits and gravy, French toast with sausage, chicken salad and a rich vegetable chowder, the Uptown Café goes out of its way to present menu items and daily specials guaranteed to tempt its customers into new territory.
Some of the items on the lunch menu are downright dramatic. How about a spicy chicken enchilada soup for lunch on a cold Indiana day? Or a gorgeous homemade sun-dried tomato bread sandwich stuffed with tender chicken, balsamic portabellos and provolone, infused with a tangy green pesto?
Other specials include unconventional dishes such as a seared Ahi tuna dish on a bed of greens with pickled beets and a cucumber salad, complemented by a fresh garlic and fennel naan, a house-made Pretzel Bread bun filled with grilled ham and rich mac and cheese, a concoction of bacon, turkey, cheddar cheese, apple and spinach on a tomato-basil bagle by the house, BBQ pork with Spanish rice, BBQ chicken with grilled onions and cheddar cheese on the house signature jalapeno-cranberry bread, and a savory meatloaf sandwich with American cheese on stone-ground mustard bread from Uptown Café’s own bakery.
For breakfast, you might hit the Uptown Café on a day when they’re making an asparagus, roasted tomato and feta cheese omelet, a bacon and cheese bruschetta with eggs and fruit, lemon-ricotta pancakes with berries or the Uptown’s delectable peanut butter crunch French toast.
Drooling yet? But you haven’t visited the Uptown Café’s bakery! Fresh and irresistible, every item is made right on the premises everyday. Along with the scones and coffee that made the Uptown Café famous, you’ll find items like white chocolate cherry cookies, blueberry muffins and pumpkin cream cheese or brown sugar pecan muffins.
Next time you’re in the northeast corner of the Circle City, take a jaunt over to visit the Uptown Café and Restaurant. Historic Noblesville, Indiana would not be the same without this charming small business in Noblesville.
